. we are now on the scene of breaking news in guerneville we first told you about at 4:30. we are getting reports of a shooting. possibly involving police officers that happened at the intersection of odd fellows park road and river side drive. right now police still on the scene. now this is video shot just before midnight as officers taped off that area. ktvu tara moriarty just a run down the scene. joins us on the phone with more on how this may have started with a kidnapping. tara. >> reporter: we are off river road in guerneville where there is a heavy law enforcement presence here. we're being kept several hundred yards back from the crime scene. a deputy told me there is so much evidence to process here. there is a very wide area quarantined off. last night around 11:00 there was a kidnapping. we have heard reports that a woman texted someone. she was being held hostage in a car. she was able to provide the vehicle description. they spotted the car. a high speed chase began for a half hour. it led sonoma county sheriffs deputies through sebastopol and ended in guernevil

crime lab unit pulled up moments ago. we're off highway 116. a few minutes from downtown guerneville. we are being kept several hundred yards back from the crime scene. i'm told it's spread out over quite a large area. the deputies have confirmed last night around 11:00. there was indeed a kidnapping. a woman texted a friend who relayed information to the san rafael police department. they in turn provided the information to sonoma county dispatch. the woman texted she had been sexually assaulted and being held hostage in a car. she was able to provide a vehicle description and the direction the car was headed. within minutes the deputies spotted the car in west santa rosa in and a high speed chase began lasting for a half hour. deputies actually tried to laying spike strips but the suspect was able to evade them. the man allegedly drove through a gate off odd fellows park road in river side drive damaging several cabin properties along the way. he ended up in a ditch and that is when deputies shot and killed him. meanwhile we understand the female victim is physically okay. santa rosa p

and ended in guerneville in the russian river valley of the wine country. it is in sonoma county the northwest of santa rosa. it ended there at 11:20, but it started at 10:45 when a woman was kidnapped and texting information to her friend from inside the car. she was trapped in there for 45 minutes when police finally were able to free her in guerneville. the shooting scene in guerneville officers say she was able to give a description of the car in her text, a patrol officer spotted the car and tried to stop him but he took off and they had to chase him using spike strips. he went around them a couple times and he finally lost control of the car and crashed in an embankment. deputies helped the woman escape and while they tried to arrest him a deputy shot and killed hill. a press release does not say why they shot the man. we hope to follow that up with police later today. the woman is okay. they are interviewing her right new. they are trying to get a handle on whether she knew the man, who he was, and why he did this. >> and now the weather forecast if fri
